What is Locker Room Finance?

Locker Room Finance exists to bridge the gap between presentation and transformation in the financial lives of student-athletes.

Most financial literacy presentations are boring and not impactful. Athletes dread sitting through things like this. You can see it in their faces. And if they don't enjoy the session, why would we ever expect them to learn anything?

That's why I created Locker Room Finance.

I knew way too many college athletes that were confused about their money but the yearly financial literacy presentation didn't provide any useful value to them. Someone would show up from a bank or finance company and use advanced financial terms without explanation, expecting the athletes to follow along. This model clearly wasn't working.

At the end of the presentation everyone would clap, walk out of the room, and change absolutely nothing about their financial situation. Externally it looked good, like the students were "receiving financial literacy," but in reality it was just a waste of everyone's time.

Enter Locker Room Finance.

Financial literacy presentations that athletes actually enjoy! Imagine that? Engaging, inspiring information delivered in a way that actually resonates with student-athletes.

For the past three years I've been working with UTSA Athletics in San Antonio, Texas to develop an impactful program that can be seamlessly integrated into any athletic department's yearly schedule. I've already expanded to schools in the Southland and Southeastern Conferences, with plans to add more schools in 2025.

This blog will serve a few purposes:

  • Make financial education relatable for student-athletes.
  • 2. Share exciting LRF news and successes.

    3. Draw people to the LRF website, which will soon have useful tools like student loan calculators and educational videos.

Thank you for reading. I'm not a great writer, but I love college athletics and personal finance, so LRF is a dream come true for me.
